Gwaihir, also known as Gwaihir the Windlord, was one of the Great Eagles during the Third Age. Gandalf and Gwaihir were close friends and Gwaihir came to Gandalf's rescue on multiple occasions which saw Gandalf fly on the back of the great eagle.
